The Religious History Of Cross Tattoos
The historical use of tattoo crosses is well documented throughout history. Early Druids and various denominations of modern religions have worn the cross in some form or another. The cross is without a doubt the most common religious tattoo ever.
The Christian Faith has used tattoo crosses as a symbol of their religion since the beginning of the faith. The cross of Christ, as well as the Icthus and the Trinity Circle, have been worn by followers of many backgrounds.
Catholics also use different versions of the cross as a popular tattoo design. Many of the Catholic traditions use crosses as a way to remember the sacraments, and to observe rituals of the Church. The Papacy has several different versions of the cross, and they all have their own distinct meaning. Since it is unlikely to see a clergyman with a tattoo, the symbol is commonly worn in jewelry or embroidery.
Although tattoos in the shape of crosses continue to be popular, their story goes back further than the Catholic faith. Some of the first druids marked themselves with a cross as a symbol of many different things. Father and Mother Nature were often worshipped in the early days of the Druids, although the symbol could also stand for various mystical concepts.
The Egyptians used a version of a cross known as an ankh, to represent eternal life. It is common to see engravings of this symbol on different mummy casings, and it is believed that the same style of tattoo crosses were found on many of the priests of Pharaoh. The ankh went on to be used as the symbol for the Roman god Venus, and is still used today as the symbol for female.
From the Druids to the Modern Christian church, tattoo crosses are still as popular as ever in today’s culture. The meanings can stand for so many different things, and the designs range from the occult to the significance of a nationality. The cross is a symbol that signafies different things to different people, and it is probably the most popular of all tattoos tattoo in the world.
